The Painters of Pompeii
Curated by Mario Grimaldi, MondoMostre's exhibition project focuses on the pictores of Pompeii--artisans who created decorative apparatuses in the houses of Pompeii, Herculaneum and the Vesuvian area.
The project aims to contextualize their role and economic status in Roman society, highlighting their techniques, tools, colors and models. The exhibition project focuses on the figures of the pictores, the artists and artisans who created the decorative apparatuses in the houses of Pompeii, Herculaneum and the Vesuvian area.
The goal is to contextualize their role and economic status in the society of the time, as well as highlight their techniques, tools, colors and models. The beauty of the images that these authors have left us—beautiful frescoes with still vivid colors, often of large dimensions—returns the reflection of the tastes and values of a varied patronage, allowing us to better understand the mechanisms underlying the workshops' system of production.
